Leaf Update
It's Leaf Season and the "joy" of managing a golf course surrounded by homes seems to get more intense each season. This is my 25th Leaf Season at Fawn Lake and we are undefeated when it comes to getting all the leaves cleaned up by Christmas. Unfortunately we haven't figured out how to do it without ruffling some feathers along the way. Each year I get a flurry of feedback during leaf season. Most of this feedback falls into two distinct categories....
- Those wondering if and when we are going to get the leaves behind their house
- Those angry that we are getting the leaves behind their house
Most of what is going to fall this year is now down and we are starting to trend in the right direction with clean up. We have to prepare the course daily for play ahead of golfers so there is always a team clearing the primary playing surfaces like greens, tees, and fairways. There is generally another team focused on mulching leaves in the rough and/or wooded areas. The leaf vacuum is running non stop as well. We are not staffed or equipped to get every leaf every day so we ask for your patience. You might see us moving leaves to the perimeter for either mulching or vacuuming, but we promise not to blow them across the property lines. Wind directions shift so we might bounce around to holes where we can work with the wind instead of against it. We start at 7:00 AM or later with the blowers. On weekends we just focus on playing surfaces and that usually means less noise as we are further from the property lines. We all appreciate your patience and hope that you know we are doing our best with the tools and time that we have. Leaf season shall pass....and then we trade blowers for chainsaws and chippers.
