Course Update

We are going from one extreme to the other on an almost weekly basis.  We endured the intense heat of early July, enjoyed an extremely comfortable and unseasonably cool mid/late July, and are now dealing with record setting rainfall and another extreme bout of heat and humidity.  The course conditions have fluctuated dramatically from all this and will continue to do so I'm sure.  

Another variable that is about to create some challenge is the departure of our summer team as school starts back up.  We deal with this every year, but always like to give you a warning as it will impact conditions until the weather cools down and the turf stops growing so fast.  

In recent news....we had a great time hosting the VSGA Women's Team Matches last week despite the awful weather.  We had 3.4" of rain in the gauge on Monday morning, .5" on Tuesday morning, .6" on Wednesday morning, and another .5" on Friday morning.  Those rains were on the heels of over 3" the previous week.  The course was unplayable Monday and there was really no relief from casual water anywhere throughout the week as the course was saturated.  We logged over 200 man hours in bunkers as they required a heroic effort every single day just to be playable.  The only brightside to being too wet to mow anything was that it freed up everyone to help fix bunkers.   Greens putted well for the event although they were much softer than we'd like.   Even though we couldn't provide the kind of course we had late last week, I was extremely proud of our team for the nonstop effort they gave to make the course passable and playable.  It's amazing to me that we got it done.  

August last year brought .33".  The first 7 days of August this year = 5"

These guys are everywhere this year.  They like to dig up freshly raked bunkers,
but they are fun to have around.

On this day we put 181 man hours into repairing bunkers following 3" of rain.
