Here is a great note just published by the USGA about what happens in times like this: USGA Update...Wet Wilt Heat, humidity, and rainfall have made this one of the worst summers I've experienced for growing bentgrass. We are hopefully nearing the peak and will start to see better 10 day forecasts soon. It's going to be tough until we see night time lows in the 60s regularly. Mowing heights have been raised slightly and we are fighting more disease on greens and tees than normal. Anthracnose, brown patch, pythium, and algae are big issues that love the weather we've had. Side note... the new bermuda tee on 8 loves this weather and those diseases have not affected it.
In addition to the stress we are seeing on bentgrass, the bunkers are also taking a beating. The past two seasons have been kind to bunkers, but 2025 is making up for that. We will have all hands on deck for 2 full days doing nothing but shoveling mud and pushing sand up. We need to add more sand for sure, but probably won't have time for that this week with Member-Member coming up and an outing on Monday. Starting Tuesday, we may try to close a hole at a time in order to get bunkers repaired. It's imperative that we get bunkers done asap so that we can pivot to all hands on deck mowing grass once the ground dries up. It's going to be another messy week for sure.
Thanks for your patience and cooperation with this challenging weather. With all the rain related tragedies in the recent news, this is certainly nothing to complain about.
