Rough Weekend
Squeezing mass amounts of work into the small gaps between rain events has become the norm lately. In the two months since we officially entered the growing season we've had over 14 inches of rain. We are showing some signs of stress now that heat is combining with all this rain. Pests like weeds and diseases will be problematic as a result of the wet start. Traffic is also causing trouble in entry/exit points and places where foot traffic is concentrated.
Today is Father's Day which means Member Guest week is here. Chances are good that we will be unable to mow any rough or fairways between now and the 10:30 start on Thursday. That means we'll be dealing with US Open rough and very messy fairways. We'll keep greens mowed by hand, but they will be extremely soft. Bunkers will take all hands on deck to make playable based on the way they look this morning and the weather that is expected. In other words...we'll do our best, but it won't be what we all hope for. 4.5" of rain the past two days, light rain falling now, and 50-70% chances of rain each of the next 4 days is disappointing. Thankfully we dodged the tornado last night and trees are mostly still upright. While it's too wet to get equipment off the paths, we'll pick up limbs, shovel mud from bunkers, and hope like crazy that the forecast is wrong. If we are lucky, we may be able to mow some rough by Wednesday evening, but will need a big help from weather and cooperation from golfers to give us a gap to work in. We'll keep our game faces on no matter what and make the most of what chances we get.
Here are some pictures from the past few days...
