Greens Aeration Reminder

Summary...Next week the course is closed from Monday-Thursday for much needed maintenance.  If all goes well, we may be able to open Thursday at some point.

For those that want a little more detail...

Next week we are scheduled to aerate greens and will also be using a process called sand injection.  The aeration will involve the "mini core" process that we started using last year.  This step will create some space in the top inch with minimal disruption to the surface.  The sand injection step will involve a contractor using a machine that forces sand into the profile.  I'm hopeful that sand injection will have a longer residual benefit than our traditional aeration and topdressing.  The aftermath of all this work should be fairly painless and quick to recover.  We are fighting the aging process with everything we have.  The USGA visit last year supported my belief that we could adopt a less disruptive approach to aeration.  That does not mean that we don't have a lot of work to do, but it does mean that the work will not take nearly as long to heal.  Throughout the season we will be topdressing lightly along with 4-5 mini core aerations squeezed into the golf schedule.

While we are closed for the work on greens we plan to make preventive weed control treatments to the fairways and roughs.  With rains forecasted again this week, we will likely be making our first cut in the zoysia grass as well.

Thank you for your patience and understanding.  Stay tuned for updates.

The mini core process removes a plug that is roughly 1.5" deep and less than 1/4" diameter

The Top Changer uses water to create a hole and then fills it with sand
