Project(s) Update

What Happened

It's been a very busy 10 days since the last update.  In that time we completed the big bridge on 18, paved the inbound lane of Longstreet Dr., ground 330 stumps, had a contractor remove 8 big dead trees, removed nearly 30 dead trees in-house, and sprayed weeds in the dormant zoysia around all greens....among other things.  Some of the "other duties as assigned" were disposing of old files from the clubhouse attic, collecting and storing the Christmas decorations from the clubhouse, and traffic control for the paving project in front of the golf shop.  Some nice weather has also allowed us to do some course prep for play such as rolling greens and raking bunkers.  In short, there is a lot happening and a lot more coming soon.

One lane of Longstreet was paved last Friday.  The other side will be
done on the next reasonably warm day.

Dead trees on 3,4,5,6, and 16 were removed with the help of this new lift

330 stumps removed will make things safer and easier to maintain in the fall.
Leaf mulching in the wooded areas is impossible with all the obstacles.  Also,
it just looks 100% better without the stumps.

What Is Happening

This week we are hoping to complete the small bridge on 18 and get the ground stumps cleaned up.  Hole 18 will be closed again this week, but should be up and running next week, if not for this weekend.  We will also begin prepping hole 8 for the work that will begin next Monday.

The short bridge on 18 is being resurfaced this week

What Will Happen

Next week we will begin upgrades to hole 8.  The hole will be closed for 3 weeks to perform much needed improvements.  We've mentioned this previously without giving a lot of details.  Both the Green Committee and Golf Committee were briefed on and agreed with our plans.  The dysfunctional bunker on the front of that green will be removed and the tee complex will be renovated.  We will use a course construction contractor to help us with the earthwork and we will assist with sod prep and installation where the bunker is currently located.  The bunker will be replaced with a slope and collection area below the front right side of the green.  The teeing area will be improved by combining the two forward tees into one large tee and combining the two back tees into one large tee.  Total useable teeing area will be increased significantly, which is critical on a par 3.  Stay tuned for frequent updates on this project.  It's going to be a huge improvement!

The undersized and lumpy tees on 8 will be rebuilt next week

This "spare" tee on 8 will be moved and used to help build the other tees

A photoshop attempt at what 8 will look like minus the right-side bunker

Poor design means that all runoff from the back green bank and green flows
directly into the front right bunker.
