Irrigation Project Update

The "big dig" is getting bigger every day.  The team has been great, but obstacles continue to pop up daily.  First and foremost is the manner in which the pipe was installed 30+ years ago.  In addition to that, the county water main was mismarked causing us to spend a full day hand digging when we could have used the excavator.  A full day of rain last Sunday and again today complicate matters too.  All of our problems are very deep in the ground beneath asphalt and concrete.  We are almost to the end of the sleeve which is getting close to the concrete in front of the golf shop.  I fear that when we reach that point, we'll find problems with the elbow where the pipe turns.  It's also clear that the portion of the pipe beneath the road is not on grade with the elbow.  We have at least one more full day of digging before we can determine if we've gone far enough.  I hope that can happen tomorrow, but today's rain may change that.  Traffic in and out will have to share the outbound side of Longstreet for a few days while we complete the portion of work under the inbound lane.  This has been an unpleasant reminder that our irrigation system is getting old.

The pipe beneath the inbound lane turns to the left just outside the concrete you see here

The county water line turned out to be about 10' away from where they marked it

Bret's office has the best view

Last Saturday night work to open up the outbound lane

New pipe being installed under the outbound lane last week

The sleeve did not end where the locator marked it so we must keep digging
