Leaf Season Reminders

The sounds of leaf blowers and mulching mowers will fill the air for the next several weeks.  The course covers a lot of ground and the trees that surround it create a tremendous amount of work.  Since the course is still busy with play, we are not able to go "all in" on leaf clean up just yet.  We are still mowing greens, rolling greens, mowing tees, mowing roughs, raking bunkers, etc... The difference is we have to blow all those areas off before we can work on them.  Once those tasks are completed (late morning) most of the staff shifts to some form of leaf clean up : blowing, mulching, vacuuming, etc...

We use our rough mowers to mulch leaves but it takes 3 days to get around the course.  It's not something we can do to every hole every day.  For that reason we do a lot of leaf blowing between cuts.  You will see us blowing leaves to the edges of "in play" areas frequently.  NOTE: We never blow them off of the course. The wind might take them off site, but I make our staff take the leaf blowing pledge every fall.  They all promise never to blow leaves onto someone's property.

The vacuum is another great tool, but it is very slow and not practical until later in the fall when leaves are virtually all down from the trees.  The best approach we've found is to continually push leaves to areas where they can be mulched and then start the vacuum in November.  We strive to get things cleaned up for the holidays.  The biggest challenge is rain as wet ground keeps us off the grass and wet leaves are hard to blow.  Every day is a battle and sometimes the leaves win.  However, we have never lost the leaf war.  Patience and persistence are the keys.

On behalf of the trees, we apologize for lost golf balls and noise.

Some days we don't fare so well
