Winter Mode
Now that we've had our first hard freeze with temps in the mid 20s it's time to switch to winter mode. The primary impact that has on golf is our hole location plan. Since ground will be frozen often in the mornings, we can not cut holes ahead of play. We have three holes in each green and will rotate the flagstick between them. When conditions allow we will cut new hole locations, but continue with three holes/green through the winter months. The golf shop has the winter pin location sheets available.
The other big change for golf is that carts will be restricted to the path more often than not. We roll the dice much more than you might think with regards to winter cart traffic. However, once the ground starts going through regular freeze-thaw-freeze-thaw cycles we prefer to play it safe. The cumulative effect of several months of traffic through the winter will make for a tough and slow spring rebound. When the ground does not freeze overnight and it's not too soft or wet, we will still allow carts to leave the path. We hope you understand our approach and will help by following the daily guidelines for cart traffic.
It's not uncommon for clubs with zoysia fairways to go completely path only once the first frost hits. That's the safest play for turf, which ultimately benefits all who play. We are trying to balance your convenience today with course conditions next spring.
If you were to do a quick search for cart traffic on dormant zoysia this is what you would find....
