Update on 8 Tee as of 8/30

8/30

Dave Allen with Virginia Underbrushing helped remove the old mix from the tees Wednesday and Thursday.  The 125 tons of mix is now stored in a pile at our shop.  GreenCor will arrive next Tuesday and begin  regrading, draining, adding new mix, and re grassing.

Hauling off the old mix

8/27

We met by phone with the contractor yesterday to develop the plan of attack.  Based on the lab results of the soil used to construct the tees, we will be removing that 4-6" layer and replacing it with a more porous mix.  The prep work will happen this week and the contractor will return next week to re-grade, add new mix, and sod.  Had the soil been as advertised, we would not be dealing with this issue in my opinion.  The data in the original sample showed 43% porosity (21 % air + 22% water ) and an infiltration rate of 7" per hour.  The sample that we submitted to the same lab from an undisturbed section of the mix on the tee showed a 40% porosity (11% air + 29% water) and an infiltration rate of  just 1" per hour.  The contractors continue to be first class and we hope they will help us in the future.  We have a lot of needs and they are good at what they do.  Fortunately we learned this lesson on 1 hole rather than 18 holes.

Poor drainage due to poor soil.  In this picture the sod has been
removed to better illustrate the issue.  Water had only been on for a couple
of minutes when this was taken.
