Relief and Fall Plans

We had 3.3" of much needed rain in the gauge this morning!  That will allow us to use the irrigation pumps to transfer some water to the ponds that are located on the course.  Some of the ponds that are not on the course will benefit if they are fed by gravity from the ponds that we fill on the course.

We held off a week aerating and overseeding roughs to avoid interfering with the Club Championship scheduled for this weekend.  However, the storm required that the event be postponed to next weekend.  Since it can take up to two weeks to complete the entire aerating and overseeding process (we do not close for maintenance) and we are quickly approaching the first frost and leaf drop, we can't wait any longer to get started with our work.  The rain and a big Monday outing will push us back until Tuesday when we will begin aerating some of the areas along cart paths.  We'll have to wait until it dries up to get other areas in the roughs.  We do not believe that our efforts will impact the tournament next weekend.  The bulk of the work will happen the following week most likely.  It's important to know that once the seed starts to germinate, carts will need to remain on the path to give it the best chance to grow.  In good conditions it may take a week to start germinating.  Once it's reached mowing height and has been mowed twice, we'll let the carts back out.

Heavily traveled areas will be the top priority with aeration and overseeding in the roughs

Greens will be aerated with small solid tines on October 9th and 10th.  This will help relieve the very compact layer 3" below the surface.  There will be very little impact to play from this process, but we will need some time to get the job done.  The tee sheet has been adjusted some on those days to allow for this process.

Tees will be aerated sometime after we complete the rough renovation process and hopefully before leaves become an all day everyday task.
