Solving Problems and Planning Ahead

We continue to find ways to improve the course during this wet weather.  It's a lot easier to work in this than the snow we were covered in a year ago.  Here is some of what we've done recently and a little info on what will be happening soon:

Preventing cart path damage, improving turf conditions, and making the course safer are the primary goals behind our tree work.  Some trees are dead, some are starting to heave concrete, and others are killing/damaging turf.  We won't get to all the problem trees, but we are making great progress.

The path at hole 2 needed some relief

Another problem we are solving is the old siding and trim on the course restrooms.  Both buildings have some rotten trim and damaged siding (thanks to a few stray golf carts).  Dave and Alan worked on this project during the recent wet days when drainage work was too messy.  We will wash and paint these buildings soon as well as make some improvements to the interior.

We replaced the trim on the cupola as well as the two columns.
Ginny will dress up the landscape this spring.

Once the bathroom project was completed, Dave and Alan went back to solving more green drainage issues.  Hole 9 was next on the list and, not surprisingly, we found more tree related trouble.  The drain exits beside the path and out to the wooded area behind the green.  The trees left of the path had clogged the drain line and in some places the pipe was crushed.  We dug up 130' of pipe and replaced it.  We will re-grade the mounds left of the path to fill the trench in and then establish new turf there this spring.

Note the tree roots.  The trees are nearly 30' away

The bare area left of the path is being re-graded in order to get
soil to fill the trench.  We hope to establish grass in this area
where it's been bare for years.  The trees are not helping.

UPCOMING:
In the next few weeks we will close holes 6 and 7 in order to replace the deck and rails on the bridge at #7.  This is going to take a several days.  We'll announce it as soon as we have a firm start date.  We also hope to replace the irrigation satellites this spring provided that supply chain issues don't interfere.  Both the lumber for the bridge as well as the satellites have been ordered.  Stay tuned for more information and detail.
