Fall Turf Recovery Update

Some grasses are going into hibernation and others are trying hard to recover from a busy summer.  Zoysia, as we've recently updated, will soon be dormant for the winter.  Roughs and greens are trying hard, with our help, to bounce back from summer weather and heavy traffic.

The popular entry/exit points for carts get beat up pretty bad each year.  We've focused a great deal of effort in these areas and have adjusted some of the traffic patterns to give the newly planted seed a chance to grow.  This is a little inconvenient, but is a necessary evil to get the results everyone expects.

Greens have had two rounds of "mini" core aeration in the past 6 weeks as well as some lab work to determine nutrient levels and soil health.  We are working with a different lab this fall and making some changes to our strategy going forward.  The lab results were not surprising and much the same as previous results.  The recommendations, however, are much different.  More steps are involved, but they will be much less disruptive to golf.  I've briefed the Green Committee on this plan and will go into more detail in future updates.
