We went from 65 degrees and sunny to 14" of snow in less than 24 hours! Power just came back on after 2 days of shutdown. Monday Alan, Ginny, Ryan, John, and I shoveled and plowed from about 8 until just after 4 PM. Tuesday the same lineup got back at it for more of snow removal. Dave Nielan was able to make it in today for some fun. This is the worst winter storm in my 21 year tenure here. From what we can see so far, there are hundreds of trees down around the course. We wrapped up the bulk of the clubhouse and maintenance facility today as far as snow removal goes. We will shift our focus to the course tomorrow by carving out the snow from the roadsides in order to get equipment down the paths.
We feel kind of like first responders with dozens of club employees who can't work if we stay closed. Hopefully food deliveries will start rolling in to the clubhouse and staff will be able to make it in soon. Alan, Ginny, Ryan, John, and Dave are amazing humans. They do not know what it's like to give less than everything they have. They got here on Monday knowing that they would likely be stranded overnight (two of them were), worked non-stop to keep things going, and stayed positive the whole time. Mike would be right here with us if not for covid protocols. Others are stranded in parts of the county that aren't cleared and/or without adequate transportation.
I hope the forecast for tomorrow night is a bust. High winds, low temperature of 9, and more snow is not what we need at the moment.
We've only been able to see about 10% of the course. Some pics of what we've been able to see so far...
Clearing patio and furniture to make room for more snow 😒 |
This tree missed the pump house by about 6". Unfortunately it landed on the intake hose. Glad it's not July, but I don't know how we'll get it cleaned up. |
