Thanks All Around

The pace at work right now is hard to explain.  12 hour days, 7 days a week, and way too many "hot topics" to keep up with.  I've learned to "embrace the suck" that summer on a golf course can bring.  Thankfully, I have a very supportive family that helps drag and push me through this time of year.  I also have an amazing group of people among the staff and membership that share in the process and provide enormous support.  My brain is too fried at the moment to get into a lot of details about what's currently happening so here is some stuff off the top of my head...

THANKS...

  • To all the folks that donated last fall to help us get air conditioning in Mike's shop.  The thermostat in his shop said 87 today with the AC running, but that felt 1000 times better than the 110+ that it would be without AC.
  • To the DFT.  You know what those letters stand for and you continue to be a huge asset to our club this year.  We asked for help when the pandemic struck and it's been wildly successful.  Filling divots is a time consuming chore that we can not complete nearly as effectively as an army of caring members.  Our staff remains small due to the pandemic so your continued support will be greatly appreciated.
  • To Steve Pendry for marking the golf course last week prior to the Member Member.  Painting all the penalty areas is tedious and time consuming task.  We were able to focus on course upkeep, clubhouse landscape installation, irrigation issues, etc...because of Steve's willingness to knock out this task on his own.  He volunteered to "help", but ended up doing it all himself.  We'll try to keep the paint fresh for the remainder of the season.
  • To Keith Armstrong for stepping up on divot filling and Monday golf monitoring.  He's been drenched in sweat for the past few Mondays tackling the hole he "adopted" along with a few others that were a little "needy".   If you signed up for the DFT, thank Keith if you notice that "your" divots are already filled.
  • To all the folks that routinely pat us on the back in passing.  The course needs a big hug right now and so do a lot of the guys and girls on staff.  Your support is very powerful.
  • To all the new golfers in the club.  Record setting rounds of golf makes all of our hard work seem even more meaningful.  When the pandemic was just getting started we wondered if golf would even be possible.  We feared the worst and weren't certain we'd have jobs.  I don't think we expected to break records.
  • To the board for navigating the club through very strange and scary times.  The staff is extremely grateful for your hard work.

I'll focus on the science and art of golf course stuff and all the hot topics in my next update.  Stay cool and safe!
