This Week In Pictures

So far we're at 2 inches and counting from today's rain.  It has been a good week until today.  We made a slight improvement to a surface drainage issue on 1 green, installed drainage behind 2 green, and did some work to the bunkers on 8 to alleviate erosion from runoff.  Today will be a good test for all three of those jobs.  Here are some pictures from the week...

The front of 1 green has always been a bathtub following wet weather.
Water won't run off the surface because of the slope in front.
Lightly regrading by hand is the first attempt at relief.

We made a small impact without major disruption or expense.
Unfortunately today's rain shows that more is needed.
The puddle is much smaller, but not small enough.
We did some minor re-grading around the bunker on 8.  Just a
small change in the shape of the slope should help reduce
the amount of erosion that occurs in the bunker when it rains.

The swale behind 2 green has been an ongoing drainage issue
We had a small window of time so we hustled Wednesday to get it wrapped up.
We robbed some zoysia from the far left of 3 fairway to finish it off.  The entire
green surround was fescue when I started 19 years ago.  Slowly, zoysia from
the front approach has crept around the green.  Several years ago we decided to give up
fighting the take over started mowing the whole area at the shorter height for zoysia.
It's slowly becoming much better.
