Timing is Everything

Here is a recent article from the USGA Green Section about the importance of timing course maintenance...

Do The Right Thing at The Right Time

Many courses in the Mid Atlantic are aerating greens soon if they haven't already done it.  We are scheduled to do it later than most.  Recovery is much quicker if we wait for the soil to warm up.  We also feel like the greens hold up better in the summer if we can wait until just before the heat kicks in to aerate.  Additionally, The Masters in early April is when many get the golf bug and we don't want you to deal with freshly aerated greens at that time.  We wait until mid-late April and find a date that works best for everyone.  This year those dates are April 30th, May 1-3.  We will do most of the work on the first two days and then work on getting the holes filled with sand and the clean up details on days 3 and 4.  The course will be closed for the first two days and opened to some degree on the last two days.  Stay tuned for more reminders and info.
